Confession Time

Please answer the following question:

What five technologies make you feel guilty at mention of, because you don't know them well.

Here are mine:

  1. .htaccess/apache configuration stuff. Never has such a small text file, created such profound mysteries.
  2. Javascript. I got the basics, I really would like to get beyond validation and making things appear and disappear.
  3. SQL. Again I got the basics, but I'm a looong way from considering myself a developer.
  4. Utilizing Social networking sites.
  5. SEO and Analytics.

Get Over It and Get To It

There will always be new (and old) things to learn.  That is reality, get used to it.

Here are some tips I have

Pursue solid general knowledge in many areas, pursue mastery in a few.

Here is another question:  Can you describe in detail what chain events and servers goe into what happens from the moment you enter a URL into your browser and the resulting page?

Having this knowledge is essential to help debug, understand.  That doesn't mean you have to master it all.  It just helps you to create

You will never learn it all, but having a wide bredth of knowledge helps prevent blank stares, builds credibility, and helps.
